The VSPN 153, digital camera is rated for 150m depth; it combines the functions of a colour video camera with those of a high definition (7 Mpixels) digital still camera, and has a 3x optical zoom It is linked to the surface by an umbilical cable and is operated via user-friendly Software, in Windows. Aconnector on the camera provides power for 1 or 2 permanent lights and another corrector provides power and a synchronized signal for the Flash unit. All connectors are of Subconn type (mateable underwater).
The surface operator receives on his (desktop or laptop) PC the video images in real time and selects among them those he wants to capture as still photographs, which are stored in the camera's built-in memory. When the operation is over and the camera is back to the surface, images are downloaded to the PC. Their very high resolution allows a strong zoom on details.
Images can then be transferred directly into the inspection report, or transmitted on Internet, or filed on a CDROM.
The complete system includes the permanent lights and the flash unit (VSF 150), the umbilical cable (maximum length 200 m) and the surface power supply unit with RS 232 to the PC
This camera exists also in a 300 m version (VSPN 303), with associated flash unit (VSF 300), both have a stainless steel housing.
